San Sebastián is known
for its famous "La Concha" Bay and its
popular "tapas" bars and prestigious
restaurants. Situated right on the north eastern
coast of Spain, San Sebastian is a sparkling jewel
in the Basque Country. The School is near the
harbour, in the traditional old-part of town,
in the city centre. Classes are given by the founder,
Luis Irízar’s daughter Visi Irízar
and a team of prestigious Cuisine and Nutrition
professionals.

About Luis
Irizar – the Founder. |

LUIS IRIZAR (La Habana-Cuba, 1930)
is a prestigious Chef. Founding-member of the "New
Basque Cuisine" movement, he is recognized
as a "Master of Masters" in his profession.
He started in the profession at the Maria Cristina
Hotel in San Sebastián, at the age of 16.
He worked as a Chef in various Restaurants and Hotels,
both at home and abroad (Restaurante Azaldegui in
San Sebastián, Restaurant Royal Monceau in
París, Hilton Hotel in London). He founded
the first Catering School in the Basque Country
at the Euromar Hotel, in Zarautz, in 1967, which
produced some excellent and renowned chefs such
as Pedro Subijana, Carlos Arguiñano, Ramón
Roteta, José Ramón Elizondo and others.
After working in the Basque Country for several
years and later in Madrid as Manager-owner of the
Restaurante Irízar for 10 years, he returned
to San Sebastián where he founded the Cooking
School in January 1993. Luis Irízar is renowned
for his total dedication to the professional teaching
of cooking.

The Cookery

During the months of July and August,
the School offers a variety of cooking courses for
professionals, amateurs and beginners. Luis Irizar’s
daughter Visi Irizar, Chef, manager and teacher at
the cooking school, gives the cooking classes in
English. Exclusive "à la carte"
programmes last 7 days, with 3 cooking classes on
Basque cuisine, with 4 hours of tuition and hands-on
cooking, followed by a tasting of your masterpieces
with wine. At the beginning of each course you will
be provided with a recipe folder with all of the
recipes that you will be creating. For those who
really like to eat, the Basque country is a must,
you'll find some of the best food anywhere, particularly
in San Sebastián.
