If you are looking for leisure,
good food, art and culture in Italy, join Laura
and Giorgio Caponetti. “We will help you
to discover our region and some hidden Italian
treasures. Since when we were young, our dream
was to spend our life in the country: big family,
greenery all around, horses, dogs and animals
of all kinds; many friends and guests. That's why
we decided to move from North Italy and buy this
farm in Tuscania: we were and still are sure this
is the most beautiful place to live in Italy.
Our family's motto is: "A guest may become
a friend". And since it's been happening
for twenty years, we have lots of good friends
all over the world (and we are often in touch
with many of them since we speak English, French
and some Spanish). We personally ensure that the
well-being of our guests is taken care of each
and every day, in our country house and during
the tours - sharing our home and our estate with
guests from all over the world.”

The Region |
 |
Tuscania is one of the oldest towns
in Italy (about 3000 years), and placed just in
the heart of Italy, in Latium at the border of Tuscany
and Umbria: one hour from Rome, two from Florence.
An ideal centre for discovering the beautiful hill-towns
of central Italy such as Orvieto, Siena, Viterbo,
the lakes of Bolsena and Bracciano, the enchanting
Maremma. Tuscania is surrounded by a land kissed
by the Goddess of Fortune. The climate is mild and
pleasant all year long; and even now the land
is untouched by air and soil pollution. It is one of the
most wonderful and wide green areas you will find
in Italy. The valley is located in the middle of
the Natural Reserve of Tuscania and the farm - about
130 acres of peace and green, is the heart of the
Natural Reserve. The English writer D.H. Lawrence,
author of "Lady Chatterly's Lover", was
here in Tuscania in the late 20s and he wrote: "The
most beautiful view in all Italy: the Etruscan valley
of Tuscania."
From the garden, there is a breathtaking view of Tuscania:
three thousand years of history, with an unspoilt
medieval town center. Nearby, the sea, the Lago
di Bolsena, the Thermal Spa: a perfect place for
a good holiday. Here the spirit of Etruscans lives
on. There is an impressive and important necropolis
that is on the estate and one feels as if one is
entering into the magic Etruscan world.

The Farmhouse |
 |
Wherever you look, whether it is
across the Marta river valley, or towards enchantingly
close Tuscania with its medieval towers, you will
feel sheltered from modern life and immersed into
the wonderful Etruscan landscape. The big family
house, with the dining room, the sitting room, the
fireplace always lit in winter, and the big kitchen.
The fabulous "landscape-garden" is a passion
that is improved yearly. The six delightful, comfortable
rooms have all the amenities and are situated beside
the main house with terraces overlooking the scenic
valley. All offer the opportunity to relax, enjoy
the culture and cuisine while staying in a pleasant,
friendly family environment.

The Garden |
 |
As you walk through the garden
you’ll experience a wide landscape of plants
and greens - with thousands of rosemary bushes
growing and blooming everywhere; and artichoke
edges, flowering arches, and roses of every kind,
genista shrubs and lavender perfuming the air
with its fragrance. The trees, plants and flowers
sowed and planted in the last decade, pretend
to be born there, as if they were naturally grown
for the pleasure of people walking by. A vegetable
garden is also grown and fresh vegetables are
of course used in dishes when in season.

A Real “Italian Home Cooking”
School. |
 |
Laura's background is that of
a hotel and restaurant consultant (i.e. Villa
D'Este at Cernobbio and Costa Smeralda Hotels).
She also has a degree in Italian Gastronomic History,
and years of practical application. This gives
her a unique pedigree to teach the secrets of
her own cooking and of Italian "eating culture".
Each and every day she supervises your meals.
This means 30 years of experience: cooking, teaching
and creating a different meal rich in culture
every day. She also has a good knowledge of herbs,
wild fruits and vegetables which she uses to prepare
mouthwatering dishes, "marmellata" and
other preserves coming from her own "orto"
(the vegetable garden is one of the passions of
her life!). In her classes, Laura teaches the
real "quick and easy" Italian every-day
cooking, but also some more demanding dishes,
the special ones you cook for a real treat. The
dishes, tasty yet subtly home-flavoured, are based
on the true traditions and art of Italian cookery.
Every day features a different menu, from "antipasto"
to dessert. Every meal is a treat, always prepared
in the healthful manner that is so important in
local life, and so deep-rooted in Italian cookery.

The Food. |
 |
During the lessons, according
to the season and to your taste, you will prepare
wild figs preserves, cannelloni filled with nettles
and ricotta cheese, mint smelling omelettes, hazelnut
biscuits, tagliatelle al pesto, zuppa with pecorino
cheese.
